Clementa Carlos "Clem" Pinckney served as a Democratic politician and Methodist Episcopal pastor in South Carolina. In 1996, he gained the distinction of being the youngest African-American man elected to the South Carolina General Assembly at the age of twenty-three. In April of 2015, he pushed for laws requiring law enforcement officials to wear body cameras. However, on June 17, 2015, Pinckney and 8 other attendees at a Bible study at his church were murdered by a white supremacist neo-Nazi.
In order to honor the victims of the shooting, Marion County, SC commissioned a bust and outdoor memorial in the Amazing Grace Park. Ed Walker worked to capture his likeness in the memorial bust that stands in the memorial park.
